Intel's Core 2 series 6x50 takes advantage of a higher bus speed with potentially better throughput, but has lower CPU clock multipliers that simultaneously present a greater challenge for overclockers. How did our E6750 sample fare?

Wow. I guess I couldnt do this on my setup? I have a gigabyte 965P-DS3 Rev 2 with OCZ DDR2 800 ram. Also the water setup you guys used do they have a kit for that? I have a Scythe Ninja which is pretty good but I am open to watercooling...

Swiftech has kits, but I don't think they put their 3-fan radiator in any of them. You could buy a kit and swap out the radiator, but I'd just order the parts.

I dont mean in any way to diminish the work or usefullness of comparisons like this but I always get irked when a statement like "this board took a huge lead over that board" when your talking about 150 points on 10,000 points. 1% is in no way, shape, or form a huge anything. That's true. But three boards hit the same max CPU speed, indicating the CPU had reached its limit under that cooling and voltage configuration.

In the introduction the author said they wanted to test the mid priced processor of the new e6x50 lineup. 4ghz is quite nice, but i wonder how far you could get with the same setup and a ds3 ... since testing a mid ranged cpu i would have liked to have seen the ds3 tested with the e6750 as well. All in all quality article!

Pretty nice .Glad i brought a E6750. But wondering what setup set did you guys use. I dont think i have the kind of money for water cooling. i just have a nice full case with 7 12c's and 18c. Would like to try to overclock my e6750

This shows the E6750 running @ 4.160Ghz but only 1.18 Volts.

Clearly they did not OC the chip this far on this voltage.
In the article they claim they use 1.6v but this is not what is in the screen shot.

What's the story?

LMAO at zenmaster. It appears that everyone here but you knows that CPU-Z almost never reports the correct voltage.

Of course there is a site for people who don't know much about overclocking that explains it

In fact, the incorrect voltage is evidence that the screenshot is legit: If the correct voltage WAS being displayed, it would have proved that at least the voltage part of the image had been edited.

Well, I've never actually seen it incorrect before, but I guess sometimes it appears to be. Perhaps I never clock voltage my CPUs that far outside the norm would explain why.

Swiftech water blocks are great (I've got 2 on my Opty's in my rig I'm writing this message on)

But a Swiftech rad. ... No I don't think so!! If you want an extreme overclock without TEC then you've got to be talking a Thermochill PA120.3 or 2x PA120.3 !! The figures speak for themselves!!

Nice article... Bit of change from the crapy hum-drum graphics card shoot-outs and stuff we have to put up with on THG these days...
